Coming soon on IPL field: Ambani vs Mallya; SRK vs Preity

The wait is over. After days of speculation over the perspective bidders for the ownership of the teams in the BCCI’s mega venture the Indian Premier League, the results were finally out on Thursday.

The ownership for the Mumbai team has been handed over to the Reliance Group chairman Mukesh Ambani, while the maverick tycoon Vijay Mallya who also has a presence in the Formula One circuit, gets the ownership of the Bangalore team.

Bollywood too makes its presence felt in the IPL in a big way. The reigning superstar of the Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan’s company, Red Chillies Entertainment has been given the charge of the Kolkata team, to be christened as Shah Rukh XI, while actress Preity Zinta, along with her beau Ness Wadia, get the Mohali/Chandigarh team.

Publishing house Deccan Chronicle and GMR’s Saanchi Sports get the Hyderabad and the Delhi teams respectively. India Cements have bagged the Chennai team, while Emerging Media, a consortium of UK based investors get the Jaipur team.

The IPL council, headed by BCCI vice president Lalit Modi announced the above winning bids to the media.

The base price for the bids was USD 50 million.

Meanwhile, Indian stars Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly along with retired Australian cricketers Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath are expected to attract the highest price tags among the 79 players who have been roped in by the IPL . The Twenty20 tournament scheduled to commence from April 18 will be played out at different centres in the country.

The players` bids are to be held next month and a top BCCI source said that even non- contracted (to BCCI) Indian players have been guaranteed a minimum of USD 15,000 by the IPL.

Shah Rukh Khan makes his entry in "City of Dreams"

After Shilpa Shetty's theatrical musical Miss Bollywood, Cineyug Entertainment is all now set to launch their next musical City Of Dreams . Says Mohomed Morani of Cineyug, “Our next is a theatrical musical saga set against the backdrop of Bollywood. We are launching it on a very grand scale. City Of Dreams will have Hindi songs and dances and star my wife, Nasreen (Lucky) as the main protagonist, Ada .”

The buzz is that Shah Rukh Khan, who is very close to the Morani brothers might be making his entry into City of Dreams . Nasreen, (first cousin of filmmakers Sajid and Firoz Nadiadwala) doesn't deny it. She says, “Right now everything is under wraps. There is a Bollywood element so if you see Shah Rukh or a big Bollywood personality in one of the roles, don't be surprised... we are close to Shah Rukh and would love to do something with him.”

Mohamed adds, “We will take a big Bollywood heroine too. Right now it's too early to say anything but yes, we are talking to various personalities including Shah Rukh. There is a Bollywood superstar in City of Dreams .

Nasreen adds, “I have been doing theatre for the past few years and have been involved in the creative department of Cineyug. City of Dreams will the first stage musical in India with Hindi songs and dances and along the lines of a Broadway musical. It will be launched in Mumbai first in March at the Jamshed Bhaba auditorium or at St Andrew's auditorium, then other parts of India after which we will set out for an international tour.”

Miss Bollywood was produced by a London team while we essentially did the choreography and creative part of it. Now Cineyug will be producing, directing and handling the creatives.

French honour for King Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is all set to join the ranks of Hollywood superstars like George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis as he has been chosen by the French government to be be honoured with the distinction of Officer dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters).

The distinction is conferred on persons who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of the arts in France and throughout the world.

SRK is expected to be presented with the honour in a special ceremony on January 27 in Mumbai. The day also marks the opening of the high profile French film festival.

The award will be presented either by the visiting French President Nicolas Sarkozy or the French Ambassador to India, Jerome Bonnafont. “SRK is very popular in France. Few years back when he was in Paris for the premiere of Veer Zaara , he was staying in the same hotel as Tom Cruise. There was a sea of young girls outside the hotel. The guards thought that they had come to see Cruise, but were surprised to see them rooting when SRK came out,” says Mohamed Bendjebbour, Audiovisual Attache-Head of the French Film & TV office, French Embassy in India.

Arundhati Roy is the other well-known Indian recipient of the award.
